Roush Room: Ask Matt

by Matt Roush

Question: Do you agree with ABC's decision to air The Music Man on the same weekend Daredevil opened and Jennifer Garner hosted Saturday Night Live? Daredevil opened huge, with buzz about Elektra (Garner, of course), and Jennifer hosted SNL, then on Sunday... no Alias? And to make matters worse the next new episode is scheduled against the Grammys! Don't you think it's another big mistake for ABC to waste the buzz from Daredevil's big opening to translate into more viewers for Alias? — Joe

Matt: Someday I expect J.J. Abrams will write a book cataloguing all the indignities ABC visited upon Alias during its time on the air. And it will have to be a fairly large volume. Just to name a few: Airing an original episode of Alias opposite last year's Golden Globe Awards, the night Jennifer Garner won; and of course the post-Super Bowl debacle, when ABC couldn't get the pivotal episode on the air until after 11 pm. This was just another colossal blunder. The opening date of Daredevil was hardly a secret, and for ABC not to be able to capitalize on that is simply shameful.
