"For the show's second season, I got a part as Jake the Downtown
Smoker, my first kissing scene. Not a bad introduction, having to
kiss Sarah Jessica Parker. But kissing anybody for the first time,
let alone doing it on camera is odd. And to it off, in the scene,
Jake drives a 1962 Porsche - a stick shift. I needed a few lessons."
"The day of, I think I brushed my teeth 18 times. 'Whatever you do,
do not put your tongue in her mouth,' the director warned. Great. I
had to not crash the car and remember to kiss without tongue. I was
a mess, sweating in my leather pants."
"But once the director said 'Action,' Sarah Jessica kissed me...and
she was wonderful. Still, there was no being turned on—that was
secondary to getting through it alive. Between shots, we talked
about our childhoods and how cool the car was. At 4:30 A.M., we were
done. 'Nice working with you,' she said, waving. I'd survived! I've
done more sex scenes since then. They're still never erotic to me,
but I don't sweat profusely anymore."
