Saved by Sydney

On 'Alias,' these are the five lucky men behind one beautiful secret agent

by Cindy Havens

They are strong, sexy and intelligent. And at one time or another, a willowy brunette with a devastating smile has saved them all.

They are the men of ABC's Alias, and the brown-haired beauty is Jennifer Garner, aka Sydney Bristow. It's sometimes confusing keeping up with who's who on Alias, which airs at 8 p.m. on Sundays, so here's a look at the good guys who are on Sydney's "I-would-kill-anyone-who-hurt-you" list.

Michael Vartan, aka Michael Vaughn

Who: Michael is the CIA agent who handles Sydney's assignment for the good guys and is in love with her.

Saved: Sydney has saved his life several times. Most recently, she procured the antidote needed to keep him from bleeding to death internally.

Says: "[Garner] makes me smile every time I see her."

Did you know: Vartan played the sleazy, cheating husband in the movie One Hour Photo.

Victor Garber, aka Jack Bristow

Who: Jack is Sydney's dad and a double agent for the CIA and SD-6. After learning that her father lied to her for more than 20 years, she's just beginning to trust him.

Saved: Sydney has saved her father's life numerous times. A few weeks ago, when the SD-6 thugs who were trying to kill him were chasing him, she showed up just in time.

Says: "[Garner's] a strong, beautiful woman, and there's not a one of us who doesn't know how lucky we are to be working with her."

Did you know: Garber sang with the group the Sugar Shoppe on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and The Ed Sullivan Show.

Carl Lumbly, aka Marcus Dixon

Who: Marcus is Sydney's partner at SD-6; unfortunately, he had no clue until recently that he is working for the bad guys or that Sydney is a double agent.

Saved: Sydney saved Marcus' life, with a little help from her friends at the CIA. The event has come back to haunt her several times.

Says: "He's always thought Sydney was one of his best friends. I don't know what happens when he finds out the truth."

Did you know: Lumbly worked as a free-lance journalist for The Associated Press.

Bradley Cooper, aka Will Tippin

Who: Will is one of Sydney's best friends and was recently recruited into the CIA.

Saved: Sydney most recently saved his life when rogue spies kidnapped him.

Says: "Will was very much in love with Sydney, but I think he's finally past that. He's more like the very protective big brother now."

Did you know: He was in Wet Hot American Summer and says, "It was such a funny movie."

Kevin Weisman, aka Marshall Flinkman

Who: He's the guy who comes up with all the fancy gadgets for Sydney to use on her missions.

Saved: Sydney recently saved his life when bad guys who needed his brain captured him.

Says: "They finally let me out in the field and look what happened. I almost got killed my first time out. Thank God she [Sydney] never gives up."

Did you know: Weisman loves gadgets almost as much as Marshall and spends hours on the computer.
