Alias Plans to Bowl Over Fans

Critical/cult hit Alias makes a play to garner more viewers with a special post-Super Bowl episode Jan. 26.

Thanks to UMgirl at SD-1 and Sarah for the transcript!

"There is a storyline that begins in this episode that allows people who have never seen the show before to understand it, because there is a fundamental shift in the premise of the show," teases exectutive producer/creator JJ Abrams. "Sydney (series star Jennifer Garner) has been working from the beginning to bring down SD-6 and the Alliance, and in many ways she succeeds. There is a great James Bond kind of opening that is sexy and exciting and fun. And the ending is by far- for regular viewers or not- the most shocking ending of an episode of TV that you'll ever see."

But there's still time for romance. "Sydney and Vaughn have had this simmering, under-the-surface love story that has been playing since the beginning," notes Abrams. "It finally reaches the surface and becomes the text of the show, not just the subtext. As romantic as it is, there are so many obstacles between them, and this episode is about them defeating the obstacles that keep them apart."

Alias will air after the Super Bowl, at approximately 10:15 p.m. EST on ABC. Its regular time slot is Sundays at 9 p.m.
