I spy a love triangle

By Jenny Cooney Carrillo

TV Week TV Week

Thanks to Kimmers at Alias-Media for the transcript and LJ at The Palace for the scans!

In this season of Alias, Sydney has lost Two years of her life and her man is married to something else. Sounds like Trouble…

"Jennifer is amazing and I’m incredibly happy to be with her."

Vaughn and Lauren may be man and wife, but he’s a long way from being over Syd….

Alias cool Spies are back for a third season, and a nasty plot twist has turned Sydney and Vaughn’s hot new romance into a complicated love triangle.. With our very own Melissa George getting in the middle!

This week, Sydney meets Vaughn’s new wife Lauren Reed, who is the National Security Counsel liaison to the CIA. The devastating love triangle between the three spies will be a key plot point in the sexy new season, and follows real-life romance between actors Jennifer and Michael, who fell in love after Jennifer’s split with her husband of three years, actor Scot Foley.

TV Week's Jenny Cooney Carrillo chatted to Jennifer, Michael and Melissa on the set of the seven network series.

How did you feel when you found out what happened to Sydney last season?

JG: We were all shocked. I’m almost embarrassed to tell you this but when we were shooting Sydney waking up in Hong Kong, I could not stop crying and it wasn’t supposed to be an emotional scene, JJ asked me why and I said. "Because I can’t stand it for her. It isn’t fair that she lost two years and the love of her life."

MV: The reactions I got on the streets were, "How could you get married?" and I was shocked. People are a little obsessed!

It’s a brilliant love Triangle!

JG: What makes it great is that Melissa’s charter is not evil. She is somebody that Sydney respects and she’s a fantastic foe because she’s intelligent and deserves to be there working with them. And it’s nobody’s fault that Vaughn thought Sydney was dead and got on with his life.

MV: The love triangle has kicked the show up a whole new level because these charters are thrown into these impossible situations, Sydney and Vaughn go on missions alone and Lauren has to deal with the fact that there are still feelings between them.

Jennifer, How do you feel about being in a real relationship with Michael while the charters are not tougher on the screen anymore?

JG: It’s been an emotionally difficult year for me, That being said, there was no scandal involved in what happened in my private life, and my ex-husband, myself and Michael are aware of that, so that takes the pressure off.

People will assume the obvious, but Michael and I were such good friends for two years that it was very natural for us to expand that relationship when I became single again.

MV: I’m very happy – anytime you have a base that is friendship that can only be a good thing. But things haven’t changed on the set with the work dynamic except for the ironic fact that she and I are now tougher in real life and our charters have just split up. But Jennifer is amazing and I’m incredibly happy to be with her.

Alias, Tuesdays at 9:30pm, Seven/Prime

Will Sydney and Vaughn ever get back together?

Syd and Vaughn will continue to be thrown tougher in the spy scenarios and their chemistry still simmers.

"There are looks between Michael and Sydney that Lauren can’t ignore," says Melissa. "Maybe they’ll get back tougher for one night. No forget I said that – we’re married!"

Michael also believe that Vaughn will find his way back to Sydney’s arms. "If I was a betting man, I’d say so. But probably won’t happen this year because dramatically I think it would be such a let-down if they got back tougher again so soon. People would say 'oh come on.'"
