Stars horse around at Cup Carnival
By Fiona Byrne
ROGUE star Michael Vartan can thank his Australian co-stars for labelling him with his eyebrow-raising nickname "Pants" - or "Pantsman".
Vartan, the star of the TV series Alias, was given the questionable nickname during the filming of Greg McLean's killer crocodile movie Rogue in the Northern Territory and Victoria last year.
Vartan is adamant he did not earn the nickname for being extremely popular with the ladies.
"It was because the character I was playing lost his suitcase and he was left with just the clothes he had on," Vartan said.
"It has nothing to do with me taking them off."
Vartan was a last-minute addition to the Emirates marquee guest list yesterday after initially not being able to make the trip to Australia for the premiere of Rogue or the races.
On Thursday, he caught a plane in LA and made a last-minute dash to Melbourne.
"Originally, I could not get released from the set of the TV show I am filming and then at the last minute I was given a day off," he said.
Vartan is a fan of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, having been a popular visitor to the famed Birdcage last year.
