Brendan Fevola's Carlton guernsey gift to US Michael Vartan

MV

US actor Michael Vartan is an honorary Aussie and an adopted Blue, after striking up a friendship with Carlton champion Brendan Fevola.

Vartan, who flew into Melbourne from Los Angeles yesterday, headed straight to Crown casino, where he enjoyed an afternoon diet cola with Carlton powerhouse Brendan Fevola.

Fevola also presented him with a Carlton guernsey.

The pair became fast friends when they both played in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship last January.

They will both take to the tables for the annual comp again today.

Alias star Vartan has become a fan of AFL during his nine trips to Melbourne.

"I knew of Brendan before I met him because I watched the games on a channel which shows them on Friday and Saturday nights back in the States," Vartan said.

"He's the only current player that I have met, and we became friends, so naturally I would root for his team.

"Although I do have a soft spot for the Kangaroos because I like their colours, and also just the fact that they are Kangaroos."

Vartan plans to spend his three weeks in Melbourne playing poker at Crown and also attending the Australian Open tennis tournament.

Sadly, he has poured cold water on his frequently expressed wish to move to our stylish city, owing to the actors' strike expected to hit Hollywood this year.
