Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi To Receive Distinction At The Genesis Awards

Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Newlyweds Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are set to be honored by the Humane Society of the United States at the 23rd Genesis Awards in March.
The animal protection group is recognizing the couple's role in helping animals with The Wyler Award, named after Genesis Awards founder Gretchen Wyler.
President and CEO Wayne Pacelle said in a statement, "Ellen and Portia stand up for their beliefs, and they have had a major impact in spreading the message about animal protection."
"The had a particular significant role in helping to pass Proposition 2, and they helped make the case to the people of California and to the rest of the nation that all animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food."
Previous Wyler Award recipients include Sir Paul McCartney and "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere.
The Genesis Awards will also honor the news and entertainment media for showcasing animal protection issues. Nominees for the 19 award categories will be announced at a later date.
The honorary committee for this year includes some of Hollywood's most compassionate celebrities such as Rosanna Arquette, Nigel Barker, Lake Bell, Matt Grant, Lisa Edelstein, Bonnie Hunt, Amy Smart, Alicia Silverstone, Michael Vartan, and Robert Wagner among many others.
The awards event will take place on March 28 at The Beverly Hilton.
