Motion pictures come to Prescott
SPOILERS!
Next Turn Productions has selected Prescott as the site of its next motion picture, Jolene. The movie, which will begin shooting in October, is a screen adaptation of the novella by E.L. Doctorow (Ragtime, 1900, Billy Bathgate). The story is set in North Carolina and is about a young woman who survives a traumatic foster home situation and goes on to become a graphic artist and be reunited with her child. Donald Sutherland, Dermot Mulroney, Jessica Chastain and Theresa Russell star in the film.
Prescott locations featured in the film will include the federal courtroom and judges chambers, the downtown plaza, Llama House, Mt. Vernon Street, Mile High Middle School, Arizona Pioneer Home and a house on Marina Street. Filming will begin on Oct. 19 and continue through Oct. 25.
More filmmakers are considering Arizona as a movie location as an alternative to California and Canada due to new incentives for film and television offered by the Arizona Film Commission. The commission offers filmmakers tax incentives on goods, services and salaries (of Arizona residents) purchased and used in the state during the filming of motion pictures and television. Incentives start at $1 million and go up to $5 million. The City of Prescott's Economic Development Office serves as the film office for the Greater Prescott area.
