Thesp confirms comeback pic

By Claude Brodesser

SPOILERS!

It's official: J.Fo will pair with J.Lo.

Two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda will return to the screen after a 14-year hiatus to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in New Line Cinema's comedy "Monster-in-Law."

Move, announced Thursday by Robert Shaye and Toby Emmerich, the studio's co-topper and production prexy, respectively, was expected.

Lopez stars as Charlie, a young woman who thinks she has found the perfect man, until she comes face-to-face with his ruthless mother. Fonda stars as the hellacious mother-in-law who believes that no woman -- especially not Charlie -- is good enough for her son. Benderspink produces with Paula Weinstein.

New Line exec VP of production Richard Brener is overseeing the project along with execs Cale Boyter and Magnus Kim. The film is slated for release in 2005.

Fonda has not acted in movies since the 1990 Robert De Niro starrer "Stanley & Iris." She has been nominated for seven Oscars and won two, for her performances in "Coming Home" and "Klute."
