Rogue going Direct-to-DVD? No!

By Clint Morris

The Fangoria report, mentioned below, was a little off it seems. The films local distributor tells us that "Hot off the press : The Rogue U.S DVD release is wrong, Weinstein are still releasing in the US market as are we [in AU]. TWC have pulled the info off the site."

Now this has gotta hurt like a kick to the left cherry.

Greg McLean’s highly anticipated “Wolf Creek” follow-up “Rogue” will be released straight to DVD, says Fangoria.

The giant-crocodile movie was completed a year or so back… and has been sitting, waiting anxiously for a release date for a spell now.

I’ve seen “Rogue” and I tell ya, it deserves a lot better fuckin’ treatment than this. They release such pap smears at theatres like “The Return”, “Chicken Little” and “The Covenant”… and yet reasonably good stuff like this gets delegated to a few bits of white space at Blockbuster? Don’t seem right.

Based on the fact that the ‘Director of Wolf Creek’ is behind the film, and that the film stars internationally-recognized stars ‘Radha Mitchell and Michael Vartan’, you’d think they could manage more than that. It’s also a film that requires a ‘big screen’… you just don’t get the same effect at home, unless you’ve got the cushy home theatre of say, Quentin Tarantino.

“Rogue” was originally supposed to be released about a month ago, but when “Primeval” – another giant crocodile movie; this one starring Dominic Purcell – got moved up… The Weinstein Company decided to move its film back.

Now, according to the above site, “Rogue” will hit DVD on May 20.

I just did a quick search on the net for more on this… and seems it’s true. A couple of online DVD stores already have it listed for ‘advance order’.

Here’s the link to the Movies Unlimited Site.

Here’s the link to the Amazon Site.

The film is still on the Australian release schedule for an August release… theatrically. Lets hope that doesn’t change.
