It's croc version of Jaws

By Genevieve Meegan

Thanks to Rosemary for the article!

THE Adelaide producer behind Wolf Creek is billing his next Australian horror flick - featuring a 7m killer croc - as the next Jaws.

But whatever you do, don't draw any links with that other croc film, Crocodile Dundee.

``It's not anything like that; he jumped on the back of the croc for about a minute of screen time and there is a lot more of it in this film,'' David Lightfoot, who is now working on Rogue, said.

The $30 million film is being shot in Victoria and the Northern Territory and stars Alias hunk and Jennifer Garner's ex-partner, Michael Vartan, Radha Mitchell and John Jarratt.

Lightfoot said Vartan was a pleasure to work with, and did not complain once about gruelling conditions such as filming in 50C heat and 90 per cent humidity.

``We all found it pretty tough,'' he said.

``He's the coolest dude, the greatest guy, so down to earth.

``With the casting, Greg (McLean - writer/director) was always adamant he wanted Radha Mitchell; we just had to find the right male lead who was not only right for the script, but the chemistry. Michael really wanted to do the role.''

Parts of the film are shot in Arnhem Land and Kakadu National Park, but film producers didn't want the stars munched by real crocs. So they are filming many of the shots in a lake in Victoria's Yarra Valley.

Lightfoot said the success of Wolf Creek added pressure to Rogue, which is using much of the latter movie's team.

``Rogue is a $30 million film and it's enormous pressure as it is working with that level of financing, the Americans trusting us to deliver,'' he said. Wolf Creek had a budget of $1.38 million, but Rogue is funded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the heads of Miramax Films.

``But it is also the follow-up to a very successful film,'' Lightfoot said.

``There's something I always believe in - if you put pressure on yourself, that's when you get into trouble.

``If you think about these things too much it will interfere with your work.''
