Making movie magic happen in Katherine

Hollywood actor Michael Vartan has been made an honary Aussie by cast and crew mates of the country's most anticipated movie being filmed in the Northern Territy.

Rogue, a spine-chilling tale of what can happen when a monstrous crocodile goes sour on a tour group, is being filmed at Katherine Gorge and Kakadu National Park, before the film set shifts to regional Victoria for the final weeks of shooting.

And former Alias star Vartan is relishing his time in the Top End, jumping up at the first opportunity during the lunch break in filming to kick the footy in the Katherine Gorge car park.

"I love football of any type," he said

He's even growing to like the crocodiles.

"We've seen a lot of crocodiles, at Yellow Waters in particular," he said. "There were so many that a couple would literally hang out with us for the afternoon while we were filming."

Rogue is written and directed by one of Australia's hottest filmmakers, Greg McLean, who has combined with good friend and producer Matt Hearne fresh from their box-office success with Wolf Creek.

The movie has kept tongues and cash registers moving at Katherine as a cast and crew of 65 take to the water for what has the potential to become the greatest advertisement for Territory tourism since Crocodile.
