Famous 'croc-infested' lake for sale

THE property used to shoot the Territory horror flick Rogue is on the market.

But it's not in the Top End.

The movie - about a man-eating crocodile stalking a group of tourists stranded on a spooky island in the Northern Territory - was mostly filmed in Victoria's Yarra Valley.

Stars Radha Mitchell and Michael Vartan in reality were "stranded" on an island at Lake Muratore, Gilderoy.

The film's art department made the trees and rock at the usually serene lake resemble those in the Outback.

But all the fakery is gone now the property is for sale.

The owner is the colourful Joe Muratore, who built the 40ha lake and named it after himself.

The lake nestles in the foothills of Mt Beenak.

Mr Muratore hit the headlines in 1966 with his ambitious project to build Australia's biggest private artificial lake, which he intended as a weekend getaway. It is for sale by tender for more than $12 million.
