The Ah Toy Girls' Excellent Adventure

By Amanda Denouel

Extras

Many of you will have already heard that Juliette and I had our 15 minutes of fame when we were extras in the filming of “Rogue” in Katherine. How ironic that us , 4th generation Australians, played the Asian tourists! All we had to do was get off a bus about a hundred times, and act like tourists.

Tracey also joined us for our “girls time” in Katherine. She wanted to meet Michael Vartan (Alias) as she is addicted to the tv program.

After spending a day out in the Katherine heat, we went to relax at Knotts Crossing, which just happened to be where the cast and crew were staying. What a coincidence!

We met John Jarrat, and I reminded him of when I first met him on the Pine Creek set of “We of the Never Never” in 1981. Tracey commented on how she liked him in “The Last Outlaw” and he was stoked to be remembered for that.

That evening I introduced myself to Michael Vartan and gave him one of Al’s baby croc prints as a souvenir of the NT.

We also met Radha Mitchell (Finding Neverland) Steve Curry (The Nugget & The Castle) Celia Ireland (Regina f rom All Saints) Sam Worthington (Somersault & Getting’ Square) and the Director Greg McLean.

The cast and crew autographed another baby croc print as a reminder of our filming experience.

I was very surprised to get a call the next day, asking us to come back to be extras again. (We were so good they wanted us back!)

This time I managed to get my whole family in on the act, and it was a lot more fun the second time around. We spent all day getting on a Gorge cruise boat, doing take after take from different angles.

Blaise said “Every time I get near the boat they yell “Cut!”

It was excellent to be able to share this experience with my sisters and family. The memories will last a lifetime.

I am grateful that the price of our fame wasn’t my little sister’s life, as she escaped virtually uninjured from a car accident on the Kakadu Highway.
