Rogue update from McLean

By Clint Morris

I’ve seen “Rogue” and I liked it. It’s got potential to stick more than a few cheeks to seats. Someone’s not so sure though… because its release date has had more spots than Lindsay Lohan’s chest area. So what’s going on there? Well, despite what a couple of outlets reported this year, it’s definitely not having its premiere at Blockbuster.

Latest from Fangoria is that Greg McLean’s giant-croc flick – starring Michael Vartan, Radha Mitchell and John Jarratt (the director’s lucky horseshoe) – will hit theatres sometime in October in America. That’s a full three months after its Australian release date of August.

Apparently the Weinstein’s will decide just how wide of a release they’ll give the film based on how well it does in Australia. Roadshow, the distributor of the film in Howard land, plan to promote the film to the brim in an effort to see that McLean can retire rich after this – only his second major pic – effort. A major tour, a nice premiere, some widespread publicity and that may just happen.

Meantime, rumours persist that McLean’s next film is something called “Dark Forces: Battle of WWII”, based on a script by Aussie lad Chris Wheeler.

One film he won’t be doing is a sequel to “Wolf Creek”, something he was briefly considering there for a while. McLean told The Adveriser its "Possible, but it's not a pressing concern".

"I'm keen to do another movie and one that challenges me in some way," McLean said. "I want to think, like 'What's going to blow my mind?' I'm actually developing a (chick flick). "I was a serious writer before I was a horror writer, so yeah, look out for a romantic comedy from me soon."

We’ll keep you updated with the “Rogue” circus as it makes its way into town.
