Sunday, September 29th, 2002 -- Premiere Day!
|
Update by: SB, Vartan Ho #2
|
Season 2 Premiere Day!! Whee!
Are y'all psyched?! :D Don't forget, to get you primed for the premiere, ABC Family is running an Alias marathon today starting at 12 pm (noon) Eastern. It runs right up until the premiere (so don't forget to flip to ABC -- as if it needed to be said). And, if anyone's changed time zones since last season, like me, definitely don't forget to make sure you catch Alias at the right time! I know the last thing I need to do this week is tune in an hour too late. One final reminder to anyone in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) that there's a Vikings NFL game starting at 7 pm, so Alias won't be shown until 11:35 pm (Central) at the earliest.
Okay, the real final reminder: make sure you've got all the ingredients you need ready for your premiere party!
Wildfeed goodies (Huge premiere spoilers!)
Herc from Ain't It Cool News has seen the satellite wildfeed of the premiere and was kind enough to put up a summary! And if you want to get some early visuals to go with it, you can find some thud-worthy screen captures here. Thanks to Lana23 on TWoP for sharing the link. :)
New promo pics
In case you missed last night's update, we've got 9 new promo pics for episode 5. Whee! Although, seriously, memo to ABC: we want Vaughn! We want Vaughn!
JG designing popcorn bucket for charity auction
Thanks to Whoosh for the heads-up: eBay is having a charity auction to benefit breast cancer research, and Jennifer is among the celebs who will be designing a popcorn bucket. Proceeds go to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Those wacky Alias editors...
Kate's added two new bloopers courtesy of Lindie, Vartan Ho #426, to the section disparate. Anyone who's ever driven from LA to Santa Barbara (or anyone who's ever driven in LA, period!) will appreciate this one. Apparently Sydney lives in the same travel world as Mulder and Scully. =P
Happy shirtless!Vaughn day!! :)

Update: Episode 5 promo pictures
Check out 9 brand new promo pics for episode 5! Yay!
Articles
First, thanks to akatolstoy, we've got a new USA Today article by Robert Bianco. Check it out here.
Next up, the Palm Beach Post has the Jennifer Garner article "Jennifer Garner needs an 'Alias' in ABC drama."
There's a very interesting article about the Gadget Factory, and their Alias creations.
Jennifer and Carl Pics
Jennifer, Scott Foley, and Carl Lumbly (Dixon) attended the Children's Defense Fund's 12th Annual LA "Beat the Odds" Awards Thursday night, and you can check out some of the images here.
We've also added a new Jennifer image from Daredevil. It's a very clear image, much better than the other grainy images we've been finding.
Michael talks season two
I get so happy when we get Michael articles! There just aren't enough out there. You can go and read Michael Vartan Hopes 'Alias' Rises, thanks to the Associated Press.
There's also a small article from E!Online's Wanda discussing the Emmy's. Careful, there's a small spoiler about season two in there!
Finally, there's another great Michael article, Living the Spy Life, up here thanks to the Winston-Salem Journal.
Vaughn...just the way we like him
For those of you avoiding spoilers, you'll have to force yourself to turn away from the fantastic spoiler pic Gertie posted on the SD-1 boards. Is it suddenly hot in here or is it just Vaughn?
Speaking of hot, Michael is reportedly going to be on E!'s "RANK: 25 Sexiest Men In Entertainment" October 1st. Well, of course he is. We've added it to the calender, and check your local listings for times. Thanks to howie1682 on the Vartan's Vixen's Group for the intel.
Jennifer Media
Jennifer was on Leno last night, and as usual she was fantastic. She was very funny, talking about how "Joan [Rivers] is in her own ball of wax", and talking about how her limo to the Emmy's broke down at a gas station. She and Scott bought candy, while she wore a million dollars in diamonds. It was great. They didn't talk about the show very much, only one quick 'lead-off' clip was shown. I'm sure someone will have a clip of the interview up soon. : )
If anyone caught the Good Morning America interview, please tell us about it!
UK Movie news
Thanks to Angela from the UK, we now know that "One Hour Photo" and Bradley's film "My Little Eye" will both be released on the same day in the UK! October 4th, 2002 in cinemas nationwide. She has seen both posters while walking through the London Underground and they looked likewise creepy! I wonder who'll do
better at the box office. ;-)
Thanx to Lise, Vartan Ho #358 we can let some Hos living in Twin Cities of Minnesota area know of Alias programming for tomorrow night. Lise writes, "I just was notified by a friend who works at the local ABC affilate here that because of a Minnesota Vikings NFL game on Sunday, the premiere of Alias will not be shown at 8 central. Instead, the ABC channel here, which is
KSTP Channel 5 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, will be airing Alias at
11:35 pm central time. However, the time they broadcast Alias will actually depend on many factors. If the game runs late, then the local news will run late, and so will
Alias. [...]Hos that live in the same area as me [might] set their VCRs for the wrong time and miss the premiere. The football game starts at 7:00pm central time.[snip]"
Thanks for the heads-up Lise!
Alias is the one to beat!
Thanks to The Mercury News and to Plechazunga at TWoP for the heads-up, it looks like Alias is the show to beat this coming season. Read yet another critic's opinion and praise of season two. Let's hope we start to see the buzz show up in the ratings.
Just Say No!
Telltale signs your loved ones are on crack: 1.) Altered patterns of behavior 2.) Dramatic change in attitude 3.) They give Alias no stars, yet give Corey Haim, the E!True Hollywood story 4 out of 4 stars.
So if you are a family member of a New York Post TV reviewer, help them stop chasing the dragon, riding the white pony, and taking the crank. Please form an intervention quickly! We'll pray for them.
...Monkeys.
The Vartan Ho Chat
It's been a little hectic, but we've gotten quite a few of you in. Congrat's again! We'd like to reiterate that only registered Vartan Ho members (those of you who have signed on as Vartan Hos and are on the Ho List) can join the chat. Someone asked if we're doing this for the premiere day only, and the answer is no. It's a permanent chat. We know a few people have been having wiggins trying to get approved, but be patient; we'll figure it out.
That's all folks. Have a nice Saturday! Go get all of your ingredients ready for your premiere party, and talk to you all tomorrow!

Talk show news
In case you're just tuning in, Jennifer will be appearing on Good Morning America this
morning chatting about Alias, and she'll also be on The Tonight Show this evening (presumably
doing the same thing).
Extra "Extra!" news
Last night's "Extra" featured Alias, and leah sent in her recap, which you can read
here. The
Extra website
has more goodies, including a video clip. Click on the pink "Video" button on the
top right part of the page, and then click on "Alias." And may I say, that's quite a
wig. Quite a wig indeed. Oh, and there are some spoilers in the clip and the
article.
The shipping news
Souris has completed the final two Season 1 VSR Reports, for The Box, Part 1
and The Box, Part 2. Excellent reports for excellent episodes.
And just in case you might have forgotten (heh), the wacky relationship fun begins anew this week! I
can hardly wait.
And finally...great site news!
We have started a Vartan Ho Yahoo messaging group, for registered Vartan Hos only, and have sent
out invitations to you all. We're very excited about being able to talk to you all on a daily basis, and
hope you all enjoy yourselves! We are using the Ho List as our mailing guide, so if you do not
have your e-mail address on the list (some of you left them blank), and want to be part of the
discussion group, please email us at thesafehouse@vartanho.com
so we can send an invite out to you! If you don't want to be part of the group, just disregard the
invitation. By the end of tonight (Friday, September 27) if you have not received an invitation and you
are a registered Vartan Ho (listed on our Ho List), please contact us and we'll get one to you right away! We hope
everyone enjoys the group, and please remember to READ THE RULES!
And with that, I will fall down in eternal gratitude that today is Friday. This Ho for one
is absolutely bleary-eyed. Happy weekend-ing!

Update: JG on GMA & Leno tomorrow; Alias on Extra tonight
Jennifer Garner is going to be on Good Morning America tomorrow (9/27, ABC) to talk about the new season of Alias. Many thanks go to Ellen for the alert!
She'll also be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC) tomorrow.
Furthermore, leah sent a recap of tonight's Extra which featured Alias. You can check that out on the misc news page (Spoiler warning!), along with a couple of other news items mostly recapping the Emmys. More to follow tomorrow. ;)
Alias invitations
Evite.com and ABC have designed customized invitations for a series of new and returning ABC shows. The shows that will have customized
templates available for viewers are "The Bachelor," "Alias," "8 Simple Rules...," "Life with Bonnie," "Less Than Perfect," "Push, Nevada" and "That Was Then." Access to these invites is available through links on Evite and ABC, where you can send customized invitations via e-mail, automatically track RSVP's, offer maps and directions, and ask for attendee opinions.
Premiere party!
Planning a party for the premiere? The Vartan Hos have got you covered (idea-wise, that is!). After you've sent out those Alias invites, well, you're going to need to figure out what to do. All you've got to do is visit our premiere party ideas page, which includes a shopping list for all the items used in the Happy Hour bar. Whee!
New spoiler
Kate's added the latest spoiler to the season 2 page, this one from the latest Watch with Wanda chat.
LO article
Check out this great article on Lena Olin and Alias from this week's New York Times! Excited yet??
Superman director announced
For those of you that didn't know, JJ Abrams wrote the script for the latest Superman movie, and now, they've picked a director: Brett Ratner, of Rush Hour and Family Man. Sounds intriguing!
Alias ad
Here's the latest ad we've found, this time in EW, featuring the return of red hair. And, oh yeah, the whole SpyFamily. :) Just how did they get Lena Olin to look so much like Jennifer??
German Hos: OHP, Daredevil release
OHP didn't start in Germany last Thursday as previously announced, as you may have noticed. It's now classified as TBA, no release date available. :( Daredevil, however, is scheduled to open on March 13, 2003.
Is it Sunday yet?!? Have a great day!

Cast Appearances
Denison University alumna Jennifer Garner ('94) will return to her alma mater on Saturday, October 5th, to speak at a college convocation at 8 p.m. in the University's Swasey Chapel. Video clips from Alias will be shown starting at 7:30 p.m. prior to the convocation. This Provost Alumni Scholar Series event is free and open to the public. You can get the full details from the official press release here. Thanks to Andrea at Alias_TV.
Jennifer Garner, Scott Foley and Carl Lumbly will be presenters at the Beat The Odds Awards on Thursday, September 26, 2002. These awards are given out by The Children's Defense Fund to students, who "have overcome tremendous odds to excel academically and in community service." J.J. Abrams will also be in attendance. Read more about it here. Thanks to Whoosh for alerting us!
J.J.'s Superman script
Speaking of J.J.: Ain't It Cool News released a lengthy review of his Superman script that's currently causing some uproar in the fan community. Read the spoiler-heavy review here, if you're so inclined. Thanks to John at Alias_TV for the heads-up.
A hilarious variation of the triangle ad
Chikypooh was good enough to create a spoofy variation of the triangle ad that's currently invading all major magazines. Thanks, we couldn't be more thrilled!
Joan Rivers rumor correction
According to Wanda's latest chat at E!Online, Joan Rivers' talk about a release of the Alias pilot in theatres is NOT true. Here's the correction:
From hacker2093: Joan Rivers said that the Alias pilot is being
released in theaters. Is this true?
I believe she was talking about the trailer for the new season.
BtS goodness during Alias marathon on ABC Family
According to Totally ALIAS at the SD-6 boards an ad indicated that the ABC Family Alias marathon on Sunday will include some behind-the-scenes stuff with the cast. Yay!
Another OHP review & foreign box office
Thanks to Angela, we've got another OHP review. This one also mentions the differences between the rough cut/Sundance cut and the version in theatres, but the reviewer likes the latter more! So go out there and watch it if you haven't yet!!
Speaking of OHP, according to Reuters/Variety it's doing quite well at foreign box offices, too: "The Robin Williams starrer "One Hour Photo" exposed a respectable $461,000 in France and has reproduced a sturdy $3.4 million through its fifth outing in Spain and $1 million after its third in Mexico." Congrats to all involved!
Emmy fashion & JG quote
People shows taste and names JG one of Emmy's Best Dressed. Thanks to FSUGirl at TWoP for the heads-up.
E!Online has conflicting mentions about Jennifer, though. They've put her in their Fashion Police section, but also have to say this in their Blow by Blow recap of the awards show:
"Then, looking fabulous and fresh as usual, Jennifer Garner bestows an Emmy on Laura Linney, for Showtime's Wild Iris." Tsk. ;)
To show them how *you* liked Jennifer's gown, vote in their fashion poll! ;)
E!Online also has a red carpet video clip of Jen & Scott (thanks to Whoosh), and if you're looking for more video coverage, check out Gertie's extensive archive at her wonderful new website Alias Media. Thanks to Angela for the heads-up. :)
Last, but not least, we've added a random Jennifer quote from the latest Entertainment Weekly. Cute!
Have a fun Wednesday! Only four more days! Whee!

We've got exclusive, and darn huge spoilers for The Enemy Walks In! If you want to be spoiled silly, enjoy those!
There's also a small spoiler/caption for Dead Drop on its page, and the ABC description of Cipher to its page.
Season premiere chat
Gennie will be having a chat at her site and her sister site this Sunday
from 8:30 p.m. until midnight at her site, Alias Junkie. Sounds like fun!
Emmy round-up, take 2
First of all, there are some new pictures from the Creative Arts Emmys; basically, the top and bottom two rows are new. And there are some new Emmy pictures here and here, as well.
Here's a blurb from the red carpet about Jennifer, and from Yahoo, there's the Emmy gown auction list, which of course includes Jennifer's Ralph Lauren gown.
And to prove that the Emmy voters have no idea what they're talking about, check out who Zap2It readers chose as their Emmy picks.
Fanfiction.net petition
Fanfiction.net has decided to stop accepting NC-17 fanfiction. There's a petition objecting to this decision, so if you'd like to sign, go here.
Ho #500!
We'd like to give a shout-out to Vartan Ho #500, Jessica. Whee! How cool!

Update: Episode 4 promo pictures
Speaking of ABC promotion monkeys, you can check out 11 new promo pics. And if they ruined your day just as much as they did mine (Lugia), read Souris' newest editorial again! ;) Ahh, feeling better instantly. :)
Emmy recap
I'm surprised my neighbors didn't come running over to see what the problem was, I screamed so loud when Jennifer was robbed (absolutely robbed!) of her Emmy. Crikey. I didn't scream quite as loud when Victor was also robbed, but I did throw a pencil at the TV. On top of that nonsense about JJ not getting an award for writing, I'd say the Emmy voters are monkeys. Bah. And by the way, did anyone spot Michael at the Emmys? Was he not there? We didn't see him, but we're still grasping onto the thin hope that someone saw him and got some pictures (hopefully that would include a tux!).
The night was not all in vain, however, as Jennifer (and Scott) looked stunning. There's a little article about Ralph Lauren 'hosting' the Emmys, which includes a Jennifer mention.
She's still our breakout star, though!
Despite last night's travesty, there's a quote here mentioning that Jennifer is poised to be the next big thing. We knew this, of course (hey, she *is* the big thing!), but it's always nice to see it recognized by others. :)
More monkeys; did a zoo free its residents this week?
We're thinking this might fall under the Vitriolic Souris Rant category of
VSR ;) but either way, there is a bone to be picked with the promo department over at ABC. And we just want to say, for the record: No triangles! Love isn't geometry!
Jennifer on Leno
Don't forget that Jennifer's going to be on Leno this Friday. You can go to his website and submit questions to be asked of her, although frankly, we're not sure he actually *uses* them. But it never hurts to try. ;) Thanks to Melli for the reminder and heads-up about the questions.
OHP at the box office
According to Reuters, "The Robin Williams drama 'One Hour Photo' fell three places to No. 6 with $4.7 million in its second weekend of wide release. Its total rose to $21.8 million."
6 more days 'til the premiere!! Happy Monday!
