INCOMING TRANSMISSION ...

Thursday, January 30, 2003 Update by: Mel TM, Vartan Ho #13

2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate?
Why, Patrick, of course! Despite my bad pep club flashback just then, I'm happy to report that the screencaps for Phase One are now live. I can just hear the flurry of mouse-clicking as hundreds of people rush to change their computer wallpaper. As always, HUGE thanks to Patrick!

What are you doing on September 2?
Pencil this one in now, everybody: according to TVShowsonDVD.com, the Alias Season 1 DVDs will be released on...September 2. I kind of killed the element of surprise on that one.

Ready the Zamboni
Starlight Children's Foundation lists Michael as playing in a celebrity hockey tournament on Saturday. Bear in mind that he's had to cancel some of these appearances before because of filming, but hopefully his schedule will permit this time.

Lots of JG news
Next Monday's TV Guide will feature Jennifer and Ben Affleck on the cover (as Elektra and Daredevil) with an accompanying article inside. Also, thanks to Whoosh at Jen-Garner.net, we've updated our calendar to reflect Jennifer's upcoming appearances on Letterman, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Conan O'Brien.

More people take potshots at ABC
We've archived another article questioning ABC's decision to wait so long to start Alias on Sunday (or even to choose Alias at all for that time slot). Hey, I don't pretend to know how to stage a massive television event, but I can tell you for certain that the Penn and Teller pickle jar thing will not soon be forgiven.

The play's the thing
Victor and Ron participated in the Ojai Playwright's Conference over the weekend, and The Victor Garber Archive has a fan recap of the event. Sounds fun (and wildly out of the Alias character mold)!

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

The Ratings Game
Despite the fact that "Alias" got its highest-ever ratings after the Super Bowl, don't look for it on any Nielsen Top 10 lists, according to Zap2it.com. That's because ABC was so hell-bent on showing us Penn & Teller and more Bon Jovi, "Alias" was pushed completely out of primetime. Making it the latest-starting show after the Super Bowl ever. Doesn't that make you want to scream? It does me. If you want more ratings information, we've archived various blurbs here.

We've also added a couple of humorous Super Bowl-related blurbs. Snarky comments about ABC are always amusing. Especially when they're true.

Isn't corporate synergy grand?
Kenyaj at TWOP let it be known that "Alias" mentions were all over ESPN.com's Super Bowl coverage. Not terribly surprising considering they're both owned by the Mouse folks, but still worth mentioning. Apparently the whole cast was at the Super Bowl, according to this attendee's diary. Jennifer gets a thumbs-up on the Mo Meter, and Page 2 says she's "easy on the eyes". All this coverage is as cool as the other side of the pillow. (Shout-out to my fellow Tar Heel, Stuart Scott -- BOO-YAH!)

The latest from Wanda/Kristin
Kate has added the spoilers from Wanda's Monday chat. Some are general and others relate to different (or indeterminate) episodes, but we stuck them all under one episode.

The word around the Safe House
Kate has also updated the Daredevil page with information about the official site and what it has to offer after a recent update, thanks to Lauren, Vartan Ho #350. And we've got a new blooper from "The Getaway".

Another leading man for Jennifer
But don't fret! It's not on "Alias"! Jennifer's co-star for the movie "13 Going on 30" has been cast. I know I've seen him in something or other before, but I have no opinion of him. Except for the fact that he's sure no MV. Thanks to Andrea at the JG Yahoo! Group for the heads-up.

Lily FREAKING Tomlin????
The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominees for the SAG Awards yesterday, and "Alias" didn't score a single nod. Its failure to be nominated for the ensemble-acting in a drama category is beyond me. It's also beyond me why the nominators would decide to recognize Lily Tomlin for her approximately 3.4 seconds of annoyingly quirky Not!Mrs.Landingham screen time on "The West Wing." That one is a head-scratcher of the magnitude not seen since the days of Pia Zadora and the Golden Globes. Gah! I just can't speak of this travesty anymore. It's too appalling. Actors, please put down your bongs.

Whew. Now go watch your tape of That Syd/Vaughn Scene again. And again. You know you wanna.

Ratings and Welcome to new Visitors!
Placing Alias in the post-Super Bowl slot really paid off! The audience almost doubled! Of course, it would've gained even more if it had been on *right after* the bowl was over. But I'll let TV Guide's Matt Roush do the talking. ;) And for the numbers in all their glory, read up on compiled ratings releases.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome all new viewers and visitors to the Alias fandom! Thanks for visiting our little corner and please keep coming back to the show! The adventure is just beginning...

On that note... spoilers & articles!
Souris has added the newest TVGuide.com description of episode 15. What a ride this will be!
Mel TM archived TV Gal's latest insights on the post-Super Bowl ep (spoilers for international fans!) and added a very interesting article about the future of the show and if it'll be renewed for season three. J.J. quotes (who's our new hero!!) included. Thanks to Steph at Sydney-and-Vaughn for that one! :)

Alias: The Game
Hot off the press comes this release about a new Alias video game: "Acclaim Entertainment has signed an agreement with Disney Interactive for the rights to publish video games based on ABC Television's Alias. An Alias game is currently being developed by Acclaim's Cheltenham studio and is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2003 across all of the next-generation platforms. The third-person action game allows players to step into the role of the series' lead character - an agent for the CIA. Players must use martial arts and an array of high-tech gadgetry to accomplish missions that span the globe. The game also will encompass stealth missions and time-based objectives." Very interesting. Thanks to americaprd at Alias_TV for the heads-up!

Alias on the cover of TV Register
Lindie, Vartan Ho #426, reports that Alias is the latest motif on TV Register's cover. This is the little TV guide that comes with the Orange County Register, Orange County, California. Very good publicity because they picked it over the Super Bowl! Yay! She kindly sent along the scan, so you can take a look for yourselves. (You might need to hit refresh cause it's a direct link.) Thanks, Lindie!

Site updates (Phase One themed)
Kate's been a hard working girl and researched the music featured in last Sunday's ep for you. I don't know about you, but I for one am making frequent use of this section. It's such a good resource to keep track of all these great songs. Now all J.J. & Co. will have to do, is put out that CD! <g> Until then, we'll just keep our wishes coming! In that vein, check out the latest entries, and congrats to Kiki, Vartan Ho #463, for getting her song wish on the show! I love when that happens! :)

Furthermore, we've added some bloopers from "Phase One". Although we really think that after seeing the ep, we should forgive J.J. and the editing department any and all bloopage. It's only right. The ep was perfect, just as it was. ;) Thank you, J.J.! Ex-X-Philes rejoice! ;)

Have a lovely Tuesday! I'm back to watching THE scene again...

!
WOW. What more is there to say? I trust everyone's minds are officially blown by last night's episode. It was amazing. I can't wait to see where the show is headed now, but as Lugia said yesterday, this is a great time to be an Alias fan!

On a tangentially related note, did anybody else watch the Super Bowl commercial for the citrusy soda (the one with the leaping monkeys) and think, "Hey, they gave the people who assemble the Alias promos their very own commercial!" Maybe that's just me, then. I think I'm permanently scarred from Agent Double Oh Yeah.

Jen at the Super Bowl
If you're like me, you may not have sat through all 36 hours of pre-game festivities. Lucky for us, Project: Alias has this clip of Jen at the Super Bowl. Very cool.

J.J. speaks
Of course, he's been doing that a lot lately. The second part of this week's TV Guide interview has now been added to the archive. It deals mostly with the possibility of an Alias movie and the release of Season 1 on DVD. Special features...mmm...

Other fun, non-Bowl stuff
We've got a couple of site updates to report. Nimmy, Vartan Ho #831, sent in this great new collage of Jennifer pictures. In other artwork news, Ashley, Vartan Ho #1041, has designed more of those cute little costume icons. Finally, the Ho List has also been updated quite a bit, so if you've e-mailed recently, check that out!

Daredevil Week
John on Alias_TV reports that next week is "Daredevil Week" on Entertainment Tonight, starting on Monday. There's also a contest you can enter to win a trip to the movie's premiere. If that's not a reason to check your local listings, I don't know what is.

All right, that's all for this Monday morning. We probably all had a pretty late night last night (thank you, Jon Bon Jovi), so here's hoping there's a nap in our collective futures before watching "Phase One" over and over. Happy Monday!
