ABC, which is rumored to pick up four to six one-hour pilots, is said to be proceeding with high-level staffing on two dramas, "Pushing Daisies" and the untitled Jon Feldman project -- a sign that the shows might be joining the "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff on the schedule next season.

The only thing that might change is Perfect Gentlemen may still be worked into the mix -- but if nothing else, it should be ordered for midseason along with Suspects or Eli Stone (a virtual toss up there).

Ten days from the start of the network upfronts, a healthy amount of buzz is beginning to coalesce around several pilots. ...
ABC also reportedly likes "Marlowe," an updated take on Raymond Chandler's detective; "Perfect Gentlemen," starring Michael Vartan and Josh Malina, among others; and "Pushing Daisies," a drama from Bryan Fuller ("Wonderfalls," "Heroes") whose touch can revive the dead. The "Grey's" spinoff "Private Practice" also stands a decent chance.

TravisYanan: through the grapevine to your computer screen the only thing i'll add is that while DIRTY SEXY MONEY tracked extremely well, it's apparently prohibitively expensive so FOOTBALL WIVES may get the pick up instead (or in addition to, who knows)
6STEPHEN: Latest word from Burbank is DIRTY SEXY MONEY is cooling off (maybe due to financial considerations? maybe it's too close to PERFECT GENTLEMEN which is now hiring writers, i.e., it's being ordered) and that ELI STONE is heating up.

I wouldn't be concerned. The network loves it. It tested very well. Pilots are tweaked all the time. Remember "Brother's and Sisters". It was a mess. Betty Buckley was replaced with Sally Field and it was almost completely redone. Now it's a huge hit. There's stories like this with a ton of pilots.

ABC
Hearing they will pick up 4 to 6 projects.
HOT:
1. PRIVATE PRACTICE (Grey's Anatomy Spinoff) by Shonda Rhimes (ABC TV Studios): This will definitely be on the air.
2. DIRTY, SEXY, MONEY by Craig Wright (ABC TV Studios/Berlanti): This show tested very well. The stars were easily recognizable for the audience.
3. PUSHING DAISIES by Bryan Fuller (WBTV): ABC is very high on this and it has gone over extremely well. Word is show being given the right to make offers to writers.
4. PERFECT GENTLEMEN by Jon Feldman (WBTV): The pilot is not in the best of shape, but it tested really well, with audiences really liking the men. Hearing this is a McPherson favorite. Word is show being given the right to make offers to writers.
5. MARLOWE by Pruss & Wolper (ABC TV Studios): Came in very strong and ABC really likes this project. It didn't test great, but Jason O'Mara is supposed to be great. They have ordered 2 more scripts.

In other news, I have heard some strategies ABC is considering. I'll list them night by night:
THURSDAY - Shocker: Betty may be moving! (See Sunday) If results hold up for Alyssa Milano's project, it may find a home pre-Grey's with either Dirty Sexy Money, Football Wives, or Perfect Gentleman following Grey's. October Road is also a possiblity to return to the night.
SUNDAY - Get this... ABC may move Ugly Betty to the night! Exteme Makeover: Home Edition has always protested a move to an hour earlier, but that may happen anyway due to sagging ratings! EM:HE/Betty/DH/Dirty Sexy Money is a serious consideration! They also keep talking cutesy ideas like Wives night with DH/Football Wives back to back or Ladies and Gentlemen with DH/Perfect Gentlemen back to back. One thing seems certain, though: it seems a foregone conclusion that B&S will move.

Here are some results from market research -- I'll post actual numbers when they become widely available to ABC execs.
EXCELLENT RESULTS
Dirty Sexy Money (High number indicated would watch again, likeable characters and stars)
Perfect Gentlemen (Great dials, many would watch again, sexy)
Private Practice (Through the roof!)
Ho note: Keep in mind that doesn't necessarily mean the pilot will be picked up for fall. As ProudBoy added later, "they still have to consider how much the show will cost, if it will appeal to advertisers, if it fits in with brand and schedule, and whether or not they feel in their gut it will be able to sustain what the pilot presents. 'Secrets' tested well, but they didn't give it a go."

Pilot buzz heating up as time winds down
Not all pilots are created equal. So as the fall 2007 hopefuls are getting final tweaks by studio executives and heading to the networks, some of them are entering the fray with stronger buzz than others.
Of course, that doesn't mean much because the networks' selection process is a marathon of screenings and audience testings, and early leaders sometimes begin lagging as the May finish line nears. That said, let's look at some of the shows the town is talking about.
Projects with strong pedigrees are early standouts at ABC. The drama "Dirty Sexy Money" -- with Craig Wright, Greg Berlanti and Bryan Singer as executive producers and a cast led by Peter Krause, William Baldwin and Donald Sutherland -- has emerged as a strong contender, while the execution of "Marlowe," starring Jason O'Mara as the famous PI, is said to have exceeded expectations.
Also said to be looking good on the drama side are the Guy Ritchie-directed "Suspect," the Barry Sonnenfeld-helmed "Pushing Daisies," the Singer-directed "Football Wives" and the Charles McDougall-directed untitled Jon Feldman project.

It's Raining Pilots in Hollywood
Remember how I loved "Desperate Housewives" before I ever met it? Or when we first heard that NBC was making an American version of "The Office." Or when "Grey's Anatomy" was nothing more than another hospital drama starring the girl from "Old School" and "Loverboy"?
You never quite know how a television pilot, the first episode of a television series, is going to pan out. And right now there are 98 pilots anxiously awaiting word on whether or not they'll get invited to the big dance in the fall.
Now I've seen none of these pilots but does that stop me from picking out my early favorites? Of course not.
Michael Vartan's Pilot (ABC): This still untitled pilot about four executives who golf at the same club also stars Dylan McDermott, Josh Malina and Nia Long, but they had me at Vartan.

NEWSFLASH: ABC is ready to talk numbers for Dirty Sexy Money.
Private Practice, Perfect Gentlemen, and Dirty Sexy Money are all
doing well on dials, focus discussion, and exit surveys.
Eli Stone is doing fine so far, but fine probably won't cut it this
year.
ABC is having one heck of a development season!
In other news, word on the street is that Lipstick Jungle tested
through the roof, Bionic Lady BOMBED (and not just a little bit), and
some other show I hadn't heard of (about a robot man?) did decent,
too. Looks like NBC is having a successful season, too.
And. lest you Fox and CW folks be jealous of the news... Fox is
researching seven shows right now, so more should be leaking about
quality soon... and rumor has it Gossip Girl didn't do so hot with
audiences, and it will be doing some retooling (maybe with casting).
If I hear anymore, I'll spill!

Bedrooms and Boardrooms is a drama from Warner Brothers Television and ABC about four friends who are up and coming executives.
James is played by Michael Vartan and is the "moral center" of the group. He's married to Stacey, and they've been together since freshman year in college, but their marriage is in trouble. He just found out she was having an affair with his late boss. He relies on his "work wife," Katie, played by Nia Long, to keep him focused in the office.
Dylan McDermott plays Duncan Collinsworth. He's divorced from Lisbeth, played by Paige Turco, but things aren't completely over. Even though he still seems interested, she knows if she took him back he'd lose interest immediately. They have a 19 year old daughter Cameron (Peyton List), who she resents her father for walking out on them.
Christopher Titus plays Brody, a married graduate of Harvard Business School.
Joshua Malina plays Karl. He's married to Wendy, played by Amy Sloan. They are seeing a marriage counselor, but he has a secret mistress on the side, Marla, played by Jessica Collins.
More than business associates, these four men are best friends who will be there for each other no matter what.
Jon Harmon Feldman of Reunion has written the pilot and will serve as Executive Producer. Charles McDougal, who also directed the pilot for Desperate Housewives will be the director.

The line gets blurred between the boardroom and the bedroom in a new outrageous drama about four dysfunctional CEOs who will do anything to stay on top.
First we meet James, who is about to become the latest casualty in a corporate shake-up until a twist of fate makes him the newest member of the corner office club. Then there's Duncan, a cosmetics CEO who can't resist sex with his age-defying ex-wife. Next, Karl is a loveable pharmaceutical big shot whose life turns upside down when his wife and mistress become best friends. And finally, Brody, the edgy Harvard B-school executive is so whipped, he spends more time planning his wife's birthday than running his company.
This foursome take refuge at their country club where they can discuss business, confide secrets, seek advice and, yes, even men will gossip. It's lonely at the top and they have to trust someone to cover their back. And when you're a desperate executive, you may have to do everything wrong for the right reputation.
Untitled Jon Harmon Feldman stars Michael Vartan (Alias, One Hour Photo), Golden Globe winner Dylan McDermott (The Practice), Christopher Titus (Titus) and Josh Malina (The West Wing, Sports Night) star as our greedy, horny and competitive yet sexy and likeable CEOs.

The pilot is very enjoyable. The character Michael will be playing is named James and he is married with two young children, a boy and a girl. He becomes CEO of a major corporation in a very unusual way, and his "perfect" life may not be as "perfect as it seems. The three other "guys" are all likable despite themselves. All in all, it should be a lot of fun to see Michael in a story that revolves around men as the main focus.
